Qu'est ce qu'une parodontite ?
80% de la population adulte est touchée par les maladies parodontales.
La maladie parodontale est la plus grande cause de pertes dentaires.
Qu'est ce qu'une parodontite ?
- La parodontite est le nom médical du « déchaussement des dents ».
- La parodontite est toujours précédée d'une gingivite (lien vers 6.2).
- En se défendant contre une accumulation de plaque dentaire sous la gencive, l'organisme détruit lui-même le parodonte profond.
- Il y a formation d'une poche parodontale. La profondeur des poches, et par conséquent le degré d'atteinte, sont éventuellement mesurés au cours d'un charting.
- Cette poche se forme sous la gencive, elle n'est donc pas visible.
Comment savoir si je souffre d'une parodontite ?
Les signes cliniques de la parodontite sont :
- Une gencive rouge et gonflée.
- Des saignements au brossage.
- Une mauvaise haleine.
- Des sensibilités au froid, des gênes.
- Des mobilités et des migrations des dents (dents antérieures qui s'écartent).
A savoir
- Les molaires possèdent plusieurs racines qui se réunissent au niveau d'une zone dénommée furcation. Lorsque la poche parodontale concerne cette zone, le traitement est alors compliqué car sa désinfection est difficile, pour des raisons de difficulté d'accès.
- Les poches parodontales se développent surtout entre les dents car la plaque s'accumule d'avantage à cet endroit.

- Pour prévenir la parodontite, accompagnez votre brossage des dents d'un léger brossage des gencives en allant toujours de la gencive vers la dent, afin d'éviter la formation de tartre sous la gencive.
- Pour prévenir la parodontite, il est très important d'utiliser du fil dentaire et des brossettes interdentaires en plus de la brosse à dents, au moins une fois par jour.
- Le résultat du traitement parodontal dépend beaucoup de la motivation du patient et de son contrôle de la plaque dentaire.
